The reason I place such importance on foot positions is because our feet are our ultimate foundations and the place from which all other movement and positioning comes. Naturally wide, bare feet offer strong yet flexible foundations upon which to build extraordinary shapes and movements. Yes, you might be able to walk, run, sprint, jump, balance, climb, swim, lift, carry, throw, catch, defend and dance, but unless you are performing these actions with a foundation of proper, natural movement – meaning all of your muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and joints are in harmony – you are set up for inevitable health problems later down the line.
Human anatomy and physiology has been through two million years of evolution; surely human feet today must be very different from those walked upon by our wild ancestors? Well, actually, no. Your feet are by nature no different from those of your ancestors, the only difference between your own feet and theirs is that they were never exposed to the restrictive footwear we use today. Babies’ feet, and those of men and women living in modern wild tribes, are notably different from those of shoe‐wearing humans.
Rewild your feet to their powerful original nature (and shape!)
Strong feet are essential for strong movement and balance. Always work from the group up!
